Going around the dinner table, we asked each other our highs and lows of the day. When we got to our 9-year-old son Sam, he knew that he had a winner for the “lows.” (Is it really a win to have the lowest low? Hum.)
“Today at school, I got stuck under my chair!”
Well, son. That certainly is the lowest of the lows for so many reasons. Congrats. (Is winning the contest for having the lowest low really a reason to offer congratulations? Hum.)
Just catching up on my Paulsen family info, and I came across this. Our family does the highs and lows every night at dinner too. Since we started it (about 10 years ago, I think), the Highs and Lows has probably been my high more times than not (though I don’t always say it). It’s nice to see it happening elsewhere!
I do enjoy Highs and Lows time. My favorite is when someone breaks the rule that “No one else sitting at the table can be your low” by saying, “I would have a low, but I cannot say it right now…” Ha! My other favorite is when our 7-year-old smiles and says thoughtfully, “My whole day was a high.” Just the way life should be 🙂
