Last night, Charlene went out with some friends, so I asked my boys what they would like to do. The answer came quickly, “Let’s go hunt for Pokemon.” To our advantage, not too far a drive from home is a Pokemon “Hot Spot.” Yep, nestled along the banks of the Mississippi is a small town with an abundance of historical markers, which draw all sorts of Pokemon action. The perfect spot.
We found a towny bar that had outdoor seating and we proceeded to order a table full of appetizers. That’s when I remembered my special power, the “Power of the Good Dad.” Now for those of you that don’t know, the “Power of the Good Dad” is a strange thing. You see, as a dad wearing a wedding ring and going out alone in public with three well behaved sons, you are approached by women that would never glance your way otherwise. They approach, note how well behaved your kids are, sometimes what a good dad you are, and they walk away smiling. Sure enough, it is a strange power, one that exudes stability and nurturing. A good man. A safe man to be around. A power to the untrained eye that looks useless, since you are in a committed and loving relationship, but oh that’s missing the point. The point is that you are a success, you are a role model, you are now the unattainable prize. Dude, smile! You won!
Congrats! You have an amazing family and a society that values you. Enjoy the attention. You’ve earned it. Life is good. Smile.
