Today, I glanced over at the passenger seat of my car. It was a mess, an absolute mess. Nine items were strewn about. Let’s play Passenger Seat Archaeologist and tell their story.
Travel Mug – now empty. It got me going in the morning, now it sits as a reminder of coffee from so long ago (about nine hours).
Newspaper – at least it was today’s edition. I may be an old man by purchasing an actual paper, but at least I am current. Wait, it’s the morning edition and now it’s night. Guess the newspaper is now old like me, too.
Plastic Cellophane Bag that once held a Hawaiian Roll Sandwich – oh, you brought me a delicious lunch. Many thanks.
Empty Paper Towel Roll – I snatched you, while you were on the way to the work kitchenette recycling bin. My son needs you for some random school project, where they are gathering up every possible empty paper towel roll. Mental note to ask again why they are collecting them.
Half Empty Bottle of Purell with Aloe – I had this at work to stop my germs from spreading, when I was pretty sick. I am feeling better now, but a new bottle of Purell is needed in the powder room at home, because the sink is broken. Thank you, traveling bottle of Purell. Your help is much appreciated and oh by the way, I scheduled a plumber for next week to repair the sink. Way to go, me.
New Bottle of Laundry Detergent – because the piles of dirty clothes at home never end. Ever.
Plastic Tony the Tiger cereal bowl and (sort of) matching metal Toucan Sam spoon – all that remains of the lovely bowl of oatmeal that I ate, while driving to work two days ago. Lovely, David. Lovely and coated with dried oatmeal remains. Just, lovely.
Marble – yes, one random marble. When my son exited the car for school this morning, one marble remained on the car seat. Why? Who knows? Perhaps, he was transporting it to school and it rolled out of his pocket. Perhaps, it represents some new type of middle school currency. Perhaps, he is just losing his marbles (sorry, I had to say that). Perhaps, it had been there all along and I had never noticed it. We shall never know, but I am proud to say that I was able to account for 8 out of 9 random items in the passenger seat. Not too shabby a collection of random stuff and not a bad day’s work.
